Our Story
The Office in Accra, Abokobi, sits in between Ghana’s hidden Fort, the Frederiksgave Fort, plantation settlements where enslaved workers lived and the European Cemetery. Abokobi, an old colonial village where the Basel Missionaries first settled has vast social infrastructure deficit. Through volunteerism and networking, iLeap was incorporated to close social infrastructure gaps across vulnerable communities in Ghana and not just Ga East District where Abokobi is the district capital. Infrastructure underpins development because it can influence development far into the future – both positively & negatively.
Core Values
Anchored by our strong, enduring commitment to changing lives in a spirit of:
- Honesty: Being honest is simply being consistent with reality. To be honest does not require that we know everything. Knowledge is always contextual and man is not omniscient. However, iLeap is responsible for saying what we mean and meaning what we say.
- Integrity: ILeap develop its principles logically, based on reality. Our principles provide carefully thought-out success and happiness. We do not, therefore, believe in compromising our principles in any situation.
- Teamwork: Our work at iLeap is so complex that it requires an integrated effort among many people to accomplish important tasks. And one of the responsibilities of leadership in our organization is to ensure that each individual is rewarded based on their contribution to the success of the total team. We need outstanding volunteers working together to create an outstanding team.
- Self-Esteem: We expect our volunteers to earn positive self-esteem from doing their work well. To act in their rational, long-term self-interest. We want volunteers who have strong personal goals and who expect to be able to accomplish their goals within the context of our mission.
- Fairness: ILeap believes that volunteers should be evaluated and rewarded objectively (for better or worse) based on their contributions toward accomplishing our mission and adherence to our values. Those who contribute the most should receive the most.
- Pride: At I Leap, pride is the psychological reward we earn from living by our values, that is, from being just, honest, having integrity, strong sense of team work and high self-esteem. We perform our work in a manner as to be able to be justly proud of what we have achieved. ILeap must be the kind of not for profit organization with which each volunteer can be proud to be associated.
- Social Inclusion: We believe in embracing the rich dimensions of diversity and are committed to advancing Ghana’s cultural mosaic values by engaging people of different origin and ethno-cultural background in our program design and implementation
- Interculturalism: We believe interculturalism is the integration of different cultures within a society that acknowledges the differences, yet its foundation is formed on the changeability of cultures that will create a diverse and unified society.
