The safety and security of volunteers is extremely paramount. Ghana is relatively safe and peaceful. iLeap’s multi-pronged approach to help you stay safe include training before and during your service. We have enormous experience and excellent track records for guaranteeing the safety of volunteers.  Our project site selection safety criteria, emergency communication systems, policies on safety and procedures, detailed emergency action plan and staff trained on protocols for responding to crimes and other incidents is awesome. iLeap works with chiefs, government appointees in districts as well as the Police institutions in communities we serve.

It is true that crime happens in every country, our purpose is to reduce the likelihood that you will become a crime victim. You are also trained to take steps to make yourself a less likely target of crime. You will be integrated into communities, learn local languages, stay aware of current issues around you and abide by iLeap’s policies and procedures on safety and security. Our doctors & nurses leading the Doctors on Wheels project will provide you with 24/7 medical care.

At every stage of your volunteer journey with the ILeap, we will provide you with the following:

  • Online language orientation before your arrival.
  • Supporting documents to assist you travel.
  • Comprehensive training before and during your volunteering time.
  • Continuing support from our offices in Accra and Kumasi.
  • Recognize your expertise, time and skills after your volunteering time.
  • Guarantee safety and reliable security
  • Assist with travel arrangements
  • Subsidize your medical care and provide you with quality medical support

After you have completed your online application or  submitted your CV, you’ll receive a confirmation in 60 minutes. The team will get back to you on the status of your application. 

At I Leap, it is our duty to keep our volunteers happy and safe. At least 1of our project coordinators, with their details shared with you before your arrival will be waiting at Kotoka International Airport. Your project coordinator who had an online language lessons with you will be the one meeting you at the airport. That is an iLeap tradition.

Finally, same project coordinators who picked you from the airport will take you back. Your program fees covers the cost of taking you to the airport. Remember to send iLeap a message when you arrive safely.

This is at the discretion of a volunteer. However, we advise that your intention to travel is evinced at the earliest to the ILeap team to enable us plan logistics as early as possible. Due to high demand of projects, we advise that you give us enough notice ( 3 to 6 months before your departure). The iLeap team is able to process late applications. It is better late than never.

The obligation is on you, the volunteer. ILeap will issue ALL relevant travel documents to aid your visa application. For traveling concerns, get in touch at travel@ileapinternational.com

ILeap advise that you consult your physician or family doctor before making a journey to Ghana. As a precautionary measure, we suggest that Yellow Fever, Hepatitis A and B and Typhoid be taken as a precaution. Yellow Fever is a must. Without it you cannot enter Ghana.

Your program fee covers transportation to and from the Kotoka International Airport, accommodation, food and water. Your flight cost, visa application fees, insurance, and in-country travels are not part of the program fees. Please note that our project sites are few minutes’ walk from the iLeap Volunteering House. No need to take a car.
