INFRASTRUCTURE LEAP (iLeap)
iLeap constructs and renovates clinics, schools, and water systems in underserved communities across Ghana. By integrating green technologies and community-driven design, we reduce maternal mortality, boost literacy, and provide clean drinking water — creating lasting change, one project at a time.
Our work is centered on three core development areas, known as our signature solutions: social infrastructure, gender-equality & empowerment and the environment.
THE PROBLEM
Africa needs up to $170 billion per year to overhaul its infrastructure, with two-thirds of that being needed for entirely new infrastructure and the remaining one-third for maintenance (ADB, 2023). Ghana, a sub-Saharan African country has vast social infrastructure deficit and funding is a key challenge. Scarcity of social infrastructure has led to delayed medical treatment & increased mortality rates, low literacy rates, spread of waterborne diseases among others. When infrastructure systems fail, women and girls are hard hit. Rural communities are further marginalized, creating disparities in access to opportunities compared to urban centres. Built infrastructures are also not properly planned & maintained. Few are built with the needs of women & girls in mind, habitats are destroyed and inequalities exacerbated. Human lives are damaged through deforestation

and land degradation. Promoting a sustainable use of ecosystem and preserving biodiversity is therefore not a goal, but a key to the survival of human life. Considering the long operational life of infrastructure, not mainstreaming gender in the infrastructure life cycle reinforces gender inequalities, wasting limited financial resources & putting lives at risk.
OUR SOLUTION
Through partnerships & volunteering, iLeap builds & renovates social infrastructure system for health, schools & clean water and sanitation without destroying natural habitats and in a fair manner that does not increase social inequalities. We advocate to shift the paradigm to ensure that gender is mainstreamed into all stages of every project life cycle, beginning with design. We build knowledge & capacity on climate change and gender equality.

I cannot say thank you enough to my host family. The kindness, hospitality and love were enormous. It was such a beautiful home. This was my first time staying with a host family. I learnt and understood the Common Law Theories. A beautiful court system in Ghana.

A beautiful country with great people. I enjoyed my one week stay at Abokobi, Accra. Giving healthcare to mothers and helping children register for the NHIS to access healthcare was pure love. I will do it again soon. A big applause to the host family.
